I have ten tattoos. And after each and every one, I’ve gone through a brief, but intense, period of regret bordering on self-loathing. Well, I got a new tattoo yesterday, and it prompted me to write this.

Shake it off. Think of it no more.

Did you make a mistake? Perhaps. And yes, it’s permanent.

Take this opportunity to learn from that mistake. Think. Don’t act so impulsively.

Eventually, you’ll feel better. You might start to like it. Love it, even. It’s happened before.

In the meantime, remember: it’s not easily visible and though big and dark, it’s not too obvious.

It’s also not ugly. Imperfect, yes. But not ugly.

Understand that imperfection is a hallmark of your character and that some flaws will be apparent to all. Some can be fixed, some can be improved, and some will remain forever.
