Book Deal Announcement

Updated 8/9/13 with my new titles. Yay!

Forget for one moment that it’s April Fool’s Day, folks, because this is for realsies. I’ve been letting the news out in drips and drabs, but consider this the official announcement:

For those of you who can’t watch the video, here is theĀ gist:

I GOT MYSELF A BOOK DEAL!

Color me delighted.

My historical mystery, Mistress of Fortune, will be published in early 2014 by Carina Press, the digital first imprint of Harlequin. They’ll also be publishing its sequel, Mistress of Lies, with a release date to be determined.

What does digital first mean? Well, initially, Mistress of Fortune will be an eBook, available in all formats. It will also likely be an audiobook through Carina Press’s partnership with Audible.com. My hope is that it will also be available, eventually, by print-on-demand.

In the meantime, I am all kinds of happy. Carina Press is a great home for Mistress of Fortune, and I’m looking forward to working with my editor, Deborah Nemeth and the rest of the team at Carina.

  1. Just remember, the Joy of Cooking was called “French Cooking for American Women” for years and years. Change isn’t always bad. CONGRATULATIONS! I’m so excited for you!

    • I’m actually looking forward to seeing what they come up with. And I will get *some* input. Not sure how much though. Anyway, it’s all part of the adventure!

  2. Congrats! It will be interesting if the title gets changed. I think the title is super cool, but I’m sure they will want to appeal to a certain kind of reader. My title was originally Monster at the Gate, which I loved, but it was deemed to be too harsh for the genre I was writing. I’ve very excited for you. I was allowed to come up with a new title (under my editor’s gentle hand) so you never know! Very exciting! I’m happy for you!

  3. Thank you, Susanna! I don’t even know what I’d call it instead of Diary of Bedlam (and yes, I think they want to appeal to a “certain” type of reader, whatever that means).

  4. Holly, congrats! Woo-hoo! Open the champagne! I remember that Crime Bake when we were both pitching. You made it! All that hard work and struggle, and it’s coming to pass! What a great feeling. Enjoy it- it’s your first.

Any chance you’ll be at Bouchercon this year? Good place to promote, you know. I’ll treat you to a celebratory libation.

And closer to pub date, let me know, and we’ll do some East Coast promo for you. I’m in Sisters in Crime, so we can spread the word.

    • Hi Dale, thank you so much for your comment. Yes, I finally made it. This seems like an appropriate first step in my career. I’ll definitely be at Bouchercon–it’s the one conference I try never to miss. See you there!
